After selling the AR-15 to Colt, ArmaLite needed a rifle that could compete in the growing market. This resulted in the creation of the AR-18 by Arthur Miller and L. James Sullivan. Capable of both full and semi-automatic fire, the AR-18 is a gas operated rifle that has influenced many later weapons such as the Heckler and Koch G36, the British SA80 and the Singaporean SAR-80 and SR-88.
